I was shown last week a new virtual server setup from Fasthosts. It’s pretty awesome, and it comes with Windows 2008 therefore IIS 7.0, and then you can add SQL Server 2008 Express edition for free. So basically a lovely big chunky new server for a small amount of money, less than my current server! Read the rest of this entry »

This weekend I was out in the sun a lot. I think it got my brain working more than usual. On Saturday I found the power of MVC.net. I mean seriously, MVC.net will change the way I programme and I know people have harped on at me for years now, but this is, it’s finally clicked! Read the rest of this entry »
The next 6 months will see a lot of growth in tiny. I really want to get it to a point where it is no longer tiny in features, just tiny in footprint on your computer. So what will be added in the next 6 months to tiny? Read the rest of this entry »

Timesheets Galore!
The next timesheet application I found was http://www.timesheets.com. It is quite easy to sign up to and you get a decent amount of time to evaluate for free. Other than the fact you can sign up and rent webcams and finger print log ins – big brother is really watching you and I don’t mean Davina McCall (the host of Big Brother for non-brits) – this is quite a good solid piece of kit and keeps a good eye on your time. For years now I have developed timesheet systems. From a desktop VB6 to a web based c# mvc app. And each time I build it, it gets simpler and simpler. It has to. In this world you have 2 types of people. One is the admin, the person that deals with spreadsheets and accounts on a daily basis, that loves to see columns of numbers adding up. The second is the user. They don’t care. They don’t actually want to use timesheets because they see it as pointless! So you have to build something where the user doesn’t need to think.
I am renowned for not testing my code to death. Cause it worked before I assume it will work again
Not so just recently. In tiny, I changed my code so that user’s Id’s were guids instead of ints, as I saved the id in a cookie, by having it as a guid would be much more secure – people can’t just go around changing cookie values and getting into other accounts now
tiny.projecttime.co.uk is now in beta.1.0. If you need a timesheet application thats cheap, tiny is free. If you need something quick, tiny is small and nimble.
Now there may be errors, so if you find any email me at errors@colinwiseman.co.uk and I will get them fixed as soon as possible.
Also any feedback and additions you migh want you can email me at updates@colinwiseman.co.uk. I consider all requests, as it more than likely is better than I could think of!
Cheers!
Its quite late, but I thought I would put a quick post together.
For the past, what 6 years?, I have been developing software with friends. BaseX which was a desktop application for architects and what we found out too late was liked by quite a few clients. However we didn’t like it. It caused us too much work with updates to the software and database as we didn’t have much infrastructure in place.
After BaseX came projecttime. It was a lesser in functionality version of BaseX but this time we aimed it at everyone. We stripped back the stuff that was Architects only, and then made some stuff generic. However the world got the better of us, and recession hit hard. We went our seperate ways.
Well being the only programmer in that team, also having an awesome job with Frame , and lots of free time seeing as am single (at time of writing
), I decided to play with the ideas in projecttime. tiny.projecttime was born.
