Elphants never forget

For the past 6 months I have been helping a complete stranger to me fix his website.  And I wasn’t even asking for money!  WTF?!?  I got more in return – I have been learning about WordPress and how to break it, and fix it, oh and break it again!

The website in question is Elephant Journal, a blog about Yoga, Spirituality and other tree huggin’ stuff.  But if you have read any of my earlier blog posts, I kinda started getting into all this.  And when a friend pointed me towards Waylon Lewis’ tweet requesting help, I thought it would be a good starting point learning how to use WordPress properly. Glasgow Massages Work

I have to admit I love getting a regular massage, and Glasgow has an abundance of good places to go.  However there also can be a lot of bad ones to be careful.  Last week I was fortunate to be introduced to Julie, a newish kid on the massage block.  My yoga teacher introduced me to her as, Simone has been visiting Julie for a while.  Well I kid you not…Best.  Massage.  Ever.  I was so relaxed afterward I could hardly keep my eyes open!

So why not try it out for yourself if you live in the Glasgow area, or passing through…. Glasgow Massage Works (tell Julie I sent you!).

Fighting Cancer with Music

Many of you that read my blog The few of you that read my blog may have seen that I have been helping a good friend Donna, build her website and promote her charity Fighting Cancer with Music.  She is currently promoting an event in Taylor, Texas for her friend Jenny Tepernning:

The Jenny Benefit

So if you read this and you are in that area, please head along and find out more.

What’s also cool is this allowed me to post my first blog on the awesome blog site Elephant Journal.  Waylon Lewis was kind enough to let me post about what is Donna is up to.  He has a phenomenal following of regular 30K visitors, with 170K more than visit at least once a month.  So hopefully this will help Donna out in ways that I could never have possibly done.  Thanks Waylon!

Yoga Glasgow

It’s been a few weeks now that this website went live, but I was busy with http://tiny.projecttime.co.uk/ so blogging about it was put to the side.

Yoga Glasgow, run by Siobhan Fitzgerald, is another yoga school based in Glasgow.  It was also another site run on an open source CMS engine, Joomla again I believe, and the developer didn’t know really much at all about design.  I say again I don’t know much about design, no formal training, but I know what looks good. SEO Techniques Don’t Work

…or keep it simple, keep it clean.

If you have read my blog then you will know that I have been building a few websites for people that have helped me get healthy in the last year.  My yoga teacher’s website, http://www.myoneonone.com, for a long time was not really ranking for what she does, yoga.  You could search for Yoga Glasgow and she would be way down the list, even though she is probably one of the best, in my humble opinion, due to her experience.  Between herself and her husband, Tobias, they really have cornered the alternative health, or as someone said to me recently, original health, market. Glasgow Osteopaths

Last year when starting my yoga practice, I decided to make sure that my back was good and healthy.  I had abused it for years drinking, dancing, and LOTS of slouching.  I decied to see a chiropractor and an osteopath.  Yes there is a difference.  A chiropractor works your spine while an osteopath works the muscles that hold your spine together.  Ok that’s probably an over simplification.

Well because of where my yoga teacher is based, The Natural Health Service in Glasgow, I was able to contact Asif and his crew of osteopaths.  Real nice people, all willing to help and offer advice.  So when I saw their website I had to offer my services. Read the rest of this entry »

Yoga January

I have to admit, one of my New Year’s resolution was to push my home practice more and more and more.  I wanted to get to a point where I was doing 1hr of yoga every morning before work.  Am up anyways.  I have a what some call a perfect body clock, and others a fucked up body clock.  Its mine.  I fall asleep easily at 21:30 onwards and won’t wake up until 05:00 and most often never later than 06:00.  I basically get my full nights sleep and I always feel great…in the mornings, night times is something else. My One On One

Yesterday my first homer of the year went live – http://www.myoneonone.com. It is a rebuild of a friend’s yoga website, the old one was badly designed, badly built, and the client was left to do what she wanted.  Now most client’s should be left to do what they want, but within set guidelines.  This new one is clean and simple.  Never going to win design awards I grant you, but nice, clean and billion times better than it was!

The old site was built in Joomla, and the Joomla backend didn’t work at all, whatsoever! And my point is made again about open source. It breaks too easily! Ok not all open source is crap.  jQuery rocks.  And maybe I have never had a good experience with open source CMS engines – Umbreako anyone?  But what my friend had to deal with to manage her website was beyond bad.  But its dead, its gone, and long live http://www.myoneonone.com.

New endings, old beginings

2009 is ending, with only 6 days to go.  At New Year, millions of people around the world will give the same old resolutions, and break them instantly.  I have done it many times before – “I’ll get fit”, “I’ll save money”, “I’ll do this”, “I’ll do that” – blah muther fucking blah!  However this time I have a reason to do all this.  A few reasons in fact.

In 2009 I fell ill, again, but this time I grabbed the illness by the balls and instead of doing what everyone else in the world seems to do, and go on drugs from your doctor to try and get over it, I went the alternative route.  I have family members that have fallen into the drugs trap and their lives become shit.  I don’t want to be that way.  I choose life.  I found yoga, I found meditation but I can’t seem to do it, and I found out that I don’t need to drink all the time to have fun.
